Chelsea have been linked with Christian Pulisic for some weeks now, and the Blues have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement to sign the Borussia Dortmund star for a five-and-half-year deal.
The 20-year-old will stay with Bundesliga leaders Dortmund for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign before joining up with Chelsea at the end of the season.
Reports claim Chelsea have agreed to pay around €64million (£57.5m) for the buzzing winger.
The USA international admitted in November that he was interested in a move to the Premier League and was linked with Chelsea and Liverpool, but Chelsea eventually won the price for his signature.
He said: “England, the Premier League, is a league where lots of kids dream of playing so there is no reason why maybe one day I won’t play here.
“As you can see, we are having a great year at Dortmund and I am enjoying every moment of that.
“Then when the time comes for me to talk in the breaks about my future, then that’s when those things happen.
“Like I said before, reading these articles [about me], I tend to stay away from that stuff. I know it is going to be there but it is not my priority.”
Upon signing for the club, Pulisic said: “In summer I move on to Chelsea and to a new competition, the English Premier League. It’s a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team of world class players.”
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are delighted to have signed one of Europe’s most sought-after young players.
“Christian has shown his quality during a fantastic spell in Germany and at just 20, we believe he has the potential to become an important Chelsea player for many years to come. We look forward to welcoming him to Stamford Bridge in the summer and wish him and Dortmund every success for the remainder of the season.”
Pulisic will prove to be an important signing for Chelsea next season under Maurizio Sarri, and can play on the right and left flank as well as behind the striker.
Pulisic was voted his country’s Player of the Year in 2017, and has so far earned 23 caps, scoring nine times.
