Chelsea laboured hard in search of the three points at Stamford Bridge against the Saints, but after 72% possession, 16 attempts and 6 on target, Chelsea couldn’t find a way past Angus Gunn who was making his debut in goal for Southampton.

See the ratings of the players below

Kepa: Made one save which was Southampton’s only real attempt on goal, and his distribution was superb. 6/10

Rudiger: Was strong with his challenges and had a comfortable evening against Danny Ings and Shane Long. 6/10

Luiz: Was comfortable at the back and his passes were very good. 7/10

Azpilicueta: Was solid at the back and made sure Chelsea’s right flank was safe from Southampton’s wing-back Cedric. 7/10

Alonso: Was a bit below par tonight, and didn’t really offer enough going forward. 5/10

Jorginho: Couldn’t play any penetrating ball forward despite having a lot of the ball. Wasn’t effective at all. 5/10

Kante: Worked hard and made a couple of good runs and looked dangerous. Unfortunate not to get a goal late in the game. 7/10

Barkley: Had just an average performance and didn’t really add much to the team. 5/10

Willian: Was looking bright before suffering an injury that led to his substitution in the first-half. 5/10

Hazard: Tried to rescue the team all by himself but it didn’t work, and had a good chance well saved by Gunn. 6/10

Morata: Was bright at times and had a number of good touches. Was unlucky to have a goal ruled out for offside. 6/10

Loftus-Cheek: Came on for the injured Willian in the first half but didn’t influence the game much until later in the second-half. 6/10

Fabregas: Replaced Barkley in the second-half and played a number of penetrative balls that threatened Southampton’s defence. Had a good game. 6.5/10

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
