Eden Hazard has only won the PFA Player of the Year award once, which was in the 2014/15 season when Chelsea won the league under Jose Mouirnho.

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante pipped Hazard to the award in 2016 when Chelsea were champions under Antonio Conte, and the Belgian will be hoping to lay his hands on that award one more time.

But it hasn’t been a smooth season so far for the Belgian, although he is enjoying a good campaign, Chelsea’s form has been stuttering for the past two months, and the 28-year-old has been inconsistent at times.

Despite that, Hazard has still been one of the best performers in the league this season, and his goal and assist are an evidence of just how well he has done.

Hazard has been involved in 22 league goals this season (12 goals and 10 assists), and he’s second only to Mohamed Salah who has been involved in 23 goals (16 goals and 7 assists).

Jamie Redknapp believes Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is on course to be crowned the Premier League player of the year, but he thinks Hazard also deserves a shot. At the start of the season, Hazard was everyone’s favourite for the award and many tipped him to be among the world’s top five players, but his form has cooled down a bit.

“No one comes close to Virgil van Dijk,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

“He has transformed Liverpool into a rock-solid team who are favourites to win their first league title for 29 years.

“His team-mate and reigning player of the year Mo Salah must fancy his chances of defending the crown.

“He has followed up a record-breaking first season at Anfield by topping the scoring charts with 16 goals.

Redknapp also mentioned Mohamed Salah, David Silva, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang , Harry Kane and Eden Hazard in his list.

“Now 33 and without Kevin De Bruyne alongside him for most of the campaign, he has been the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s side.

“Chelsea may have blown hot and cold, but you cannot discount Eden Hazard. He is our league’s most naturally talented player and is in double figures for goals and assists.

“With this award, timing is everything. This time last year De Bruyne was the clear favourite, only for Salah to storm into the running. But looking at the season so far, these six are the outstanding candidates.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.

  1. Eden Hazard is undoubtedly the premier league best player right now and Mo Salah might be ahead of him in goals but Hazard is still a front runner 🏃 of the PFA award..
