Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is under huge pressure after the Blues suffered their heaviest defeat in Premier League history with a 6-0 thrashing from Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

A hat-trick from Sergio Aguero, a brace from Raheem Sterling and one for Ilkay Gundogan condemned Sarri’s side to an embarrassing defeat that took Chelsea out of the Champions League spot even down to sixth.

While City returned to the top of the Premier League table due to the win and also boosted their title credentials, Chelsea sank to sixth due to their goal difference taking a big hit, with Arsenal overtaking Chelsea to the fifth spot.

Jamie Redknapp has slammed Sarri’s tactics which he used against City, as he revealed that against a big side like City, Sarri should have deployed N’Golo Kante deep in midfield to provide cover for Jorginho.

Chelsea have lost their last three away games in embarrassing fashion, conceding 12 goals and failing to score in any.

Redknapp doesn’t think Chelsea should be losing those games in such a manner and believes Sarri’s tactics need to be changed.

“As he disappeared down the tunnel, Maurizio Sarri had the look of a beaten man,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.

“Even against a team of Manchester City’s might, Chelsea do not lose 6-0. They do not lose 4-0 to Bournemouth, either, or 2-0 to an Arsenal team beset by defensive issues.

“It wasn’t that Chelsea gave up at the Etihad or stopped running for their manager. They were simply too predictable.

“Every time Chelsea made a mistake, City were lying in wait to punish them.

“There is no variation to Sarri’s tactics. In a game like this, why wasn’t N’Golo Kante asked to play deeper and give Jorginho some support?”

Sarri has insisted that there is nothing wrong with Sarri-ball and he won’t change his style. The Italian has been predictable with his tactics, and even his substitutions are always alike.

Redknapp has told Sarri that his inflexibility could cost him his job and he should have no complains if Roman Abramovich decide to sack him.

“The Chelsea hierachy hired Sarri because of his style of play but they must be growing increasingly frustrated by his lack of flexibility,” he added.

“They will quickly have to decide whether they back Sarri and give him time to implement his philosophy or to say that enough is enough.

“If they do make a change, though, who do they bring in? Do Chelsea look at Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and give the job to Gianfranco Zola until the end of the season?

“I still believe that Sarri deserves another chance but if this defeat is the final straw, he can have no complaints.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
