Chelsea will face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday with memories of the 6-0 thrashing by Manchester City still fresh in the memory of Chelsea fans.
It is Sarri’s chance to win a trophy for the first time in his career but Chelsea’s recent form and our performance against Manchester City at Etihad this month isn’t giving many fans the belief that Chelsea would beat Manchester City.
Former Premier League striker Michael Owen is backing Manchester City to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Owen explains to BetVictor why he expects City to beat Chelsea: “Ahead of the Europa League second leg tie with Malmo Chelsea have lost half of their last 10 games in all competitions. They had previously lost 5 of their last 41 games and this is a massive game for all at the club, but especially Maurizio Sarri whose rigid inflexible tactics look almost old-fashioned compared to many of the top sides and their leading coaches.
“Chelsea have beaten City already this season 2-0 at Stamford Bridge but they were outclassed in the Community Shield in the season curtain-raiser at Wembley and suffered a humiliating 6-0 loss at the Etihad earlier in the month.
“I expect to see Chelsea raise their game back at Wembley and make it a final to remember, but I still back City to run out winners.”
Just like Michael Owen, Paul Merson is backing Manchester City to beat Chelsea and is predicting a 3-0 win for Manchester City.
“I wish I could do this at 3.30pm on Sunday when I see the teams or at kick-off when I see the way Chelsea are going to set up. If they set up as they have done and play ‘Sarriball’, I would be shocked if it wasn’t at least 3-0 to Manchester City,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Good managers change, that’s what they do, you don’t just go everywhere and play the same way, especially after losing 6-0 against the same team a few weeks ago!
“If they change the way they play, you never know in a cup final.
“But look at City with the team they played at Newport in the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola is ruthless. If they are 2-0 or 3-0 ahead against Chelsea with 25 minutes left to go, then he will want to get four or five.”
From the prediction given by Owen and Merson, the game between Chelsea and Manchester City will have lots of goals.
