Chelsea great Joe Cole has singled out a Chelsea player for his impressive performance in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday night.

A goal from Pedro and an own goal from Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier gave Chelsea a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Cole was impressed with the performance of Pedro in the win over Tottenham on Wednesday and hailed the winger’s performance as brilliant.

“Definitely a significant night,” Cole said on BT Sport.

“It’s what was cried out for.

“I’m so pleased for Sarri because it was a bold decision to leave the goalkeeper out and it was all resting on tonight.

“The boys responded and got the job done.

“I think the main thing he’s done is put a bit of steel in the team, give them the licence to get back in shape and use their defensive instincts.

“Pedro was brilliant tonight.

“But not just the goal and going forward, helping out the full-back [Cesar] Azpilicueta and on the other side.

“And they’ve done it despite taking the best player off and giving him a rest on 60 minutes.

“So it was just a great night all round.”

Premier League legend Alan Shearer hailed Maurizio Sarri’s decision to drop Kepa Arrizabalaga for Willy Caballero.

“I think there’s no way he could have played that goalkeeper tonight, Kepa,” Shearer said.

“There was no way after what he did, disrespecting him, the rest of the players, the fans, there was no way he could play him.

“He made the right decision and it worked out for him. I’m delighted.”

Cole also hailed Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri for his brave decision to drop Kepa for Caballero against Tottenham.

“I think it’s easy for someone like Alex Ferguson, who had them years of dominance and stature at the club, to do things like that,” Cole told BT Sport.

“I think for a Chelsea manager to do things like that, there’s other factors to it.

“We’ve seen the history where the club have changed managers quite regularly.

“So it’s more of a gamble [at Chelsea].

“If Alex Ferguson at Man United does that, everything’s going in that direction and that’s that.

“But at this club things can change very quickly.

“You can’t criticise the board for that as well because they’ve won things and they’ve been successful.

“He’s deliberated it a lot and he knows if it goes wrong tonight, it’s going to come on him.

“But I applaud him for his bravery and I think it’s the right thing.”
