Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has come under heavy criticism from Chelsea fans lately after the club’s dip in form, which has seen the club go from potential title contenders to outsiders in the race for Champions League qualification.
Sarri is struggling to keep his Chelsea job and according to a report on Standard Sport, the Chelsea players believe Sarri could be sacked if they lose to Tottenham on Wednesday, with former assistant Steve Holland lined up to replace him in a caretaker role.
A loss to Tottenham on Wednesday could leave the Blues six points outside of the top four.
The Chelsea board has reportedly made qualification for the Champions League as main priority for the campaign.
Chelsea have lost five times in our last 12 games since losing to Tottenham in November and the Chelsea board are concerned about the dramatic dip in League form and may act if Spurs take all three points on Wednesday.
If Sarri is sacked, Steve Holland will be considered for a caretaker role until the end of the season. Holland was assistant manager at Chelsea for six years before leaving to work as assistant to Gareth Southgate in the England national team.
Chelsea loan technical coach, Eddie Newton, is also been considered for the caretaker role if Sarri gets sacked. The former Chelsea midfielder acted as back-up to Roberto Di Matteo in 2012 when the club won the FA Cup and Champions League following the departure of Andre Villas-Boas.
Despite being a popular figure at the club, Sarri’s assistant Gianfranco Zola won’t be considered for the role of a caretaker coach according to Standard Sport.
