Ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup fifth round game against Manchester United tonight at Stamford Bridge, former Manchester United midfielder Gordon Strachan has mocked Sarri-Ball.
Strachan claims he has no idea what Sarri-Ball is and thinks Sarri’s style of play at Chelsea just relies on Eden Hazard to provide a moment of magic and Jorginho sitting in the middle. The former Scotland manager isn’t convinced with Sarri’s style of play at Chelsea.
“Can somebody explain to me what ‘Sarri-ball’ is?” Strachan said on talkSPORT.
“I’ve still not got it yet. Has it just been invented? Is it fake news?
“It just looks like a 4-3-3 with one sitting midfield player, and the rest just pass the ball to Hazard.
“Wherever he is, it has to go through Jorginho and then somehow you have to get it to Hazard and then you have to stand back and wait for Hazard to do something brilliant, which he has done on many of occasions.
“But if that’s not working, then it doesn’t seem to work at all.
“This ‘Sarri-ball’ thing, unless somebody can explain to me what it is, I’m not sure about it.
“I’m not sure what it is.”
Meanwhile, Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero has urged Sarri to adapt his tactics.
“I am not there day by day so maybe there is some stuff they need to change daily, because I know how usually he works. It is pretty tough, it is time on the field, and strict,” Del Piero said.
“Maybe sometimes with the mentality you need to adjust, find another way to do things.
“But Chelsea showed already great games and performances at the start of the season.
“The last month was up and down, it wasn’t the best, definitely. But they have organisation, they have players to re-start winning every game.”
