Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is shocked at Maurizio Sarri’s decision to leave him out of the squad that travelled to Sweden for the Europa League game against Malmo on Thursday.
According to The Telegraph, Cahill was left out of the squad without any sort of explanation or warning. Cahill is reportedly stunned at the treatment from Sarri with the defender reportedly made to feel like a ghost.
Cahill hasn’t made an appearance for Chelsea since November and the 33 year old was hopeful of at least getting on the substitutes’ bench against Malmo on Thursday.
Despite being club captain, Sarri has barely spoken to Cahill since arriving at Stamford Bridge last summer. The Telegraph claim Sarri barely speaks to other fringe players in the squad too. In fact, Sarri has reportedly not spoken to Cahill at all about the club’s situation or asked for his input during team meetings or around the training ground.
Since joining Chelsea in 2012, Cahill has helped the club win the Premier League twice in addition to both domestic cup competitions, the Europa League and Champions League. With less than six months left on his contract, his Chelsea career is coming to a sad end.
Given his omission against Malmo on Thursday, Cahill is reportedly not confident of playing against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Monday.
The defender has reportedly not confronted Sarri for being left out in the cold.
