Chelsea legend Pat Nevin believes Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain will score lots of goals if Chelsea stretch play more by getting to the byline regularly like Manchester City and Liverpool.
Higuain scored twice in Chelsea’s 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon.
“If you look at the teams like Manchester City, like Liverpool, who play a possession-based game, what do they do?” Nevin said on Football Focus.
“They get to that byline regularly. Liverpool it might be the left-back, [Andy] Robertson’s fantastic, obviously [Mohamed] Salah’s quite capable of doing this as well.
“You look at Manchester City, they get to the byline constantly.
“That’s the problem with Chelsea right now, they are not endangering this area.
“They’ve got to do that to give their strikers a chance.
“He [Higuain] is a good fit for Chelsea if they adapt it a little bit.
“I think his movement is fantastic, I think it’s world class, he’s one of the best strikers for movement and understanding where to go in the box.
“However, when it’s so slow and not dynamic through that midfield, it’s going to be hard for any centre-forward at any level.
“However, if you can get down the lines, into those sort of areas, as I say that Liverpool do and Manchester City do and Chelsea are capable of doing, he will score goals.”
