Chelsea were in for a shocker after losing woefully to Bournemouth over a week ago.

After the 2-0 defeat against Arsenal where Chelsea were below par, in the following league game where Chelsea were expected to bounce back, the Blues put in their worst performance of the season suffering a 4-0 loss to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Chelsea however bounced back from that defeat with a 5-0 thrashing of Huddersfield Town, and Antonio Rudiger has revealed that such a mistake should never repeat itself.

The 25-year-old centre-back also urged the team to have consistency and believes the team has what it takes to play Sarri-ball but has asked for patience.

He said: “It’s up to us now. What happened against Bournemouth must not happen again.

“Our biggest shortcoming is that we lost consistency. We always want [it], but sometimes not a lot works out. We go blank a bit currently, but it’s no reason to talk everything down. I am not that kind of guy.

“For a long time, Chelsea had a defensive approach. And you can’t get used to something new overnight. Pep Guardiola’s first year wasn’t all that smooth as well.”

Maurizio Sarri was so critical of the performance of his players after the loss to Bournemouth that he slammed their mentality, claiming that they’re difficult to motivate.

Speaking about the squad’s mentality, Sarri said: “At the moment they can react against a big team, when we play against a big team we can play with a big level of motivation.

“But in this match it was different. Suddenly after the first goal we were not able to play. I think it was a different situation. Of course about the mentality.

“Maybe we are not at the top of the table, but we cannot lose 4-0 to Bournemouth, I want to respect them. Maybe it is my fault that I am not able to motivate them.”

Hopefully, the players and Sarri himself are motivated for this weekend’s crucial clash as Chelsea travel away to the Etihad Stadium to face the champions and top of the table Manchester City in front of their fans.
