Antonio Rudiger’s agent Saif Rubie has called for Cesar Azpilicueta to be stripped of the captaincy at Chelsea after failing to control Kepa Arrizabalaga during the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

A strange thing happened during the game as Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to leave the pitch after Maurizio Sarri decided to sub him for Willy Caballero late in extra time. The Spaniard had pulled his cramp and the Chelsea boss decided to bring on Caballero who’s a renowned for being a penalty hero, but Kepa refused to leave the pitch much to the frustration of Sarri.

An angry Sarri was left raging on the touchline and after play had resumed the Italian headed towards the tunnel at Wembley before he turned around and walked back towards Chelsea’s bench.

Kepa refused to leave the match despite being talked to by David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger, and Rubie has called for the captain band to be given to Rudiger.

He said: “I’m a fan of Azpi but as captain he should never have allowed what happened with the goalkeeper refusing to come off to happen.

“For me he needs to have the captaincy taken off him, goalkeeper dropped for the foreseeable future and Rudiger to be made Chelsea captain as he’s a real leader.”

Chelsea legend John Terry while speaking on the incident accused Kepa of disrespecting the manager having refused to be substituted in Chelsea’s League Cup loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

“Once your number goes up you have to come off and show a bit of respect,” former Chelsea captain Terry said on Sky Sports. “Deal with that after. That’s the last thing the players want.

“It’s certainly not the end of it it’s clouded a good performance. It’s taken the shine off a good performance, it’s disappointing. We’ll see what happens.”

When asked what he would say to the goalkeeper after the game if he was in the dressing room, Terry added: “I’m not sure (what to say) It’s tough one for the players on the pitch. You have to go off. It’s a difficult for the players, it’s not their responsibility. It’ll be interesting if he plays the next game.”
