Maurizio Sarri transformed Napoli with his style of play, as he turned Napoli into a team that played brilliant attacking football mixed with possession, and it was a good mix. Sarri’s style of play was nicknamed Sarri-ball as Napoli sought to challenge Juventus dominance in the Serie A.

After Chelsea let go of Antonio Conte following his two-year stay at the club, the club decided it was time to bring in Sarri and welcome Sarri-ball to the Premier League, and what a start Sarri-ball had in England.

Chelsea were so dominant at the start of the season that the Blues remained the last club in Europe’s top five to lose a game in all competitions – which was the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham, and since then Chelsea have been on a decline.

Sarri-ball hit its lowest point after a 6-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening, Chelsea’s worst defeat in the Premier League. And this came not long after the Blues lost to a mid-table Bournemouth side 4-0.

Chelsea’s away performance have been so terrible that the Blues have lost all three of our last away games in the Premier League, conceding 12 goals and failing to find the net in those three games.

Sarri-ball has suffered to the point where all Chelsea have to show after a match is meaningless ball possession without creating a tangible opportunity. If you take a look at the games against Arsenal, Bournemouth and Manchester City, Chelsea failed to create a clear-cut chance.

Sarri-ball has made Chelsea a laughing stock in Europe, and the Italian’s football has now been titled ‘Sorryball’.

Chelsea are now 6th on the table, but Sarri believes Sarri-ball will still work despite the 6-0 defeat to City.

Asked whether the humiliating loss to Manchester City and other recent losses to Bournemouth and Arsenal make him doubt his style of football can ever work at Chelsea, Sarri said: “No, because today I did not see my football.

“No, because at the beginning it worked so now we need only to understand the reason why at the moment it is not working.

“It is not easy. In the beginning we played better away than at home, now we play better at home than away, something has changed.

“At the moment I am not able to see the reason but I have to work for this, because my target is to play my football, it is not to change to another football. At the moment we are playing another football.”
