Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola revealed this week that Chelsea are still in the Premier League title race despite Chelsea being 12 points behind Manchester City and Liverpool entering this weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri insists Chelsea are not in the title race but believes Chelsea can win a trophy this season with the Blues in the Carabao Cup final, FA Cup and Europa League.

Sarri believes the Premier League title race is between Manchester City and Liverpool.

Asked if Chelsea are still in the Premier League title contention, Sarri said: “No, at the moment, I don’t think so.

“I think we will be able to fight for the top four this season. No more, I think. We can win something of course, but in Premier League there is a fight between Liverpool and Manchester City.

“At the moment Manchester City, in my opinion, is the best team in Europe. I know very well it’s very difficult to win the Champions League, because if you have to play in the Premier League it’s very difficult to get to the final in other competitions. At the moment, in my opinion, they are the best team in Europe.”

Sarri also believes Chelsea need to work hard to close the gap with Manchester City.

“I think we need to work,” Sarri added. “Guardiola is in the third season in Premier League, Klopp in the fourth or fifth, I can’t remember. I think we need to work. You are the more competitive in the market, or you have to work.

“I don’t know another way. I think we need only to work and we have to try to reduce the gap, because at the moment there is a gap. We have to work, only to work.”
