Chelsea beat Malmo 2-1 in Sweden on Thursday evening.
Goals from Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud ensured Chelsea bounced back from the 6-0 humiliation against Manchester City last Sunday.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was happy with the win over Malmo after a difficult week following the humiliating loss to Manchester City but according to the Italian, Chelsea could have killed the game against Malmo after having chances to do so.
“I am happy because we played in a good level of confidence,” Sarri said. “It wasn’t easy after the last match.
“We moved inside our box, we played very well. We risked only on set pieces. We could score more I think, but we conceded a goal on a mistake.
“The level of application was good, we made a material mistake. I think we could win better. We had three or four goal opportunities.
“We could kill the match. It wasn’t easy to have this confidence.”
Sarri also revealed he expects better from Chelsea in the defensive phase.
“If we concede a goal like this to City, United, Tottenham then you could lose three in ten minutes,” Sarri added. “But the performance was good.”
The Malmo fans were noisy all through the game and Sarri discussed the atmosphere at the stadium.
“The atmosphere was like a little Naples,” Sarri added. “They are usually 50,000, it was wonderful.
“They are a physical team, you have to gain the qualification. We have to play and they are very compact. They didn’t surprise us, I knew them well. I saw their Europa League matches and in their pre-season.”
