Real Madrid have surprisingly gone back to their former manager as the Los Blancos decided to recall former boss Zinedine Zidane back to the club.
Zidane’s appointment was confirmed on Monday as head coach of the club, just ten months after the Frenchman quit in the wake of winning Los Blancos’ third Champions League in a row.
Zidane signed a three-year deal with the club, and reports claim that the Frenchman has been given a war chest of £300m to revamp the Real Madrid squad.
Top of Zidane’s list is believed to be Eden Hazard who has made it clear that Zidane is his idol, and a move to Real Madrid might become inevitable for the Belgian.
In his first press conference as Madrid boss, Zidane was asked about Eden Hazard who has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, but he failed to give a response and chose to focus on his team.
Asked if there’s a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, Zidane said: “I’m just here enjoying an important day and I’m happy to be back at this club. I’m only thinking about the last 11 games this season.
“We will have plenty of time to chat and make those decisions come the end of the season when we plan for the new campaign.”
Ahead of the Europa League clash against Dynamo Kiev, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri was asked about the future of Hazard following the appointment of Zidane as the new manager, but Sarri chose not to be worried about the situation.
He said: “I don’t know, you have to ask Hazard. I didn’t speak with Eden about Zidane so I don’t know. I am not worried because you know very well my opinion.
“I only want players in my team who want to play for Chelsea, so I cannot be worried.”
According to The Telegraph, Real Madrid made contact with Chelsea about Hazard shortly before they announced Zinedine Zidane as their new head coach on Monday.
Spanish publication Marca ran a poll on their website asking Real Madrid supporters a number of questions following Zidane’s return as head coach of the club.
Among the questions in the poll, fans of Real Madrid were asked to vote for the player they want to be a priority signing this summer.
Hazard received more than half of the votes with 54% in the poll, suggesting many Real Madrid fans want the club to sign him this summer.
