Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi were excellent in Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League second round clash on Thursday night.

Hudson-Odoi got a goal and an assist in the game to cap a wonderful performance, while Loftus-Cheek put in a powerful display in the middle of the park.

The duo are Chelsea’s brightest players to have come out of the academy in recent years, and both have been tipped to have a successful career.

However, playing time has been hard to come by, as the duo started for the first time in over a month against Dynamo Kiev. It’s even worse for Hudson-Odoi who’s being targeted by Bayern Munich, but is yet to get a Premier League start.

After a wonderful showing against Dynamo Kiev (see how they were rated in that game), former Chelsea midfielder Glenn Hoddle believes that Blues boss Maurizio Sarri won’t call them when the competition gets to the semi-final stage.

Asked if he felt Hudson-Odoi and Loftus-Cheek will get more minutes this season, Hoddle told BT Sport: “I hope so, whether I think they are going to get those minutes I’m not so sure. Not this season, no.

“I think in the quarter-final and if they get to the semi-final for this trophy, you’ll see the big guns come out again.

“They’ve done well tonight, they can only play and show the manager what they’ve got against the oppsoition they’ve got to play against.

“But I think when push comes to shove and there are going to be big games, and if they are going for the top four until the end of the season, no, I don’t see those two playing.”

Loftus-Cheek has been knocking on the door of the Chelsea first team, and the 23-year-old is actually showing that he has what it takes to oust Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley who are currently ahead of him.

He has been getting good minutes in the second-half, and Sarri has revealed that his persistent back injury which he only recovered from in January is the reason why Loftus-Cheek is yet to start a game in recent months.

“In the last two or three weeks (his back is) better,” Sarri said.

“He has continued training the last two or three weeks. I think his physical condition is not at the top at the moment for playing for 90 minutes.

“The back now is better and better so I think that in two to three weeks he’ll be able to play for 90 minutes.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
