Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is one of the contenders for the Premier League Player of the Year but Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Chelsea star Eden Hazard and not Van Dijk should be named Player of the Year.
According to Pires, there is only one winner for the Player of the Year and his name is Eden Hazard.
Asked whether he thinks Hazard should leave Chelsea for Real Madrid at the end of the season, Pires told bwin: “I think Hazard is the best player in the Premier League and he fits the profile of what Real Madrid are looking for.
“I’ve seen talk about maybe [Virgil] Van Dijk winning Premier League Player of the Year, but there should only be one winner and his name is Eden Hazard.
“I watch Chelsea matches just because I want to watch Hazard play.
“Chelsea are very lucky to have Hazard and he can do things that no other player in the world can do.
“You look at his (Panenka) penalty in the Carabao Cup and who else would even try that against Ederson in that situation?
“The problem is that Hazard isn’t able to win the trophies his talent deserves at Chelsea so Real Madrid are a very attractive proposition.”
Meanwhile, Hazard has urged Chelsea to win each of our remaining ten games to ensure Champions League qualification next season.
Sixth-placed Chelsea have 56 points, five behind third-placed Spurs, two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and one point behind fifth-placed Arsenal. Chelsea have played a game less than Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal.
“We talked together in the dressing room about Arsenal-Tottenham. Both lost two points,” Hazard told Chelsea TV.
“Top four is a hard war, because we’re not only four teams, we’re six teams. Now we have 11 games to play till the end of the season. We’ll try to take the maximum points.”
