Gonzalo Higuain joined Chelsea on loan in January but has struggled to impress for the Blues, with the Argentine scoring just three goals in ten appearances.
The Argentine was expected to solve Chelsea’s goalscoring problems when he joined from Juventus in January but the Blues hierarchy have been disappointed with his performances.
According to Marca, Chelsea have given up on Higuain and will not take up an option to loan him for a further 12 months.
Chelsea have the option to extend Higuain’s deal by 12 months by paying £15.5million but after poor displays since joining the club in January, Chelsea have no interest in securing his services for next season.
The 31-year-old Argentine striker enjoyed his most prolific season under Maurizio Sarri in Napoli but has failed to replicate that form in Stamford Bridge.
Sarri revealed after the 2-0 loss at Everton on Sunday that Higuain is struggling mentally and physically with the demands of the Premier League.
Asked if Higuain was struggling, Sarri replied: “Today Gonzalo Higuain had an opportunity” he went on, “but too few for him. He had a problem at the start of the week, a strong stomach ache with fever so today it is normal he was able to play for 60 to 65 minutes, but he needs to improve his physical and mental condition.”
