Chelsea youngster Reece James is having an impressive season on loan at Wigan Athletic, and has been recognised for his performance with a selection in the English Football League Championship’s Team of the Season.

The 19-year-old, who is on his first loan away from Chelsea, has impressed in the Championship, playing in defence and midfield.

James who was our Academy Player of the Season last year has played in each one of Wigan’s league games this campaign, and even scored with a free-kick against Leeds United.

Reece James is hailed as one of Chelsea’s brightest talent from the academy and many are backing him to have a successful career.

James has impressed on loan at Wigan in many positions that Wigan boss Paul Cook believes that he could even feature as a goalkeeper.

“Reece is just an outstanding talent,” gushed Cook in January, who was fast running out of superlatives to describe the 19-year-old.

“He’s probably also the best table tennis player in England…probably the best golfer too…he’s that kind of talent!

“I’m sure he will go on to have an outstanding football career, and we’re very lucky to have had him for this period to allow him to grow.”

Cook was asked if he sees a long-term future in central midfield for Reece James, to which he responded: “I see him in a lot of positions to be fair.

“We might have a look at him up front at the minute…he could probably do a job there!”

Crystal Palace have been impressed with his performances while on loan at Wigan and are considering making a £10million move for the 19-year-old this summer. But Chelsea aren’t keen to sell.

James signed a new four-year contract last summer.
