It has indeed been a breakthrough season for Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi. At just 18, the Chelsea academy product has been offered a mammoth salary by the club and he’s already being chased by Spanish giants Bayern Munich.
The teenager has made a huge impact in games he has played this season and has already featured 19 times for the Blues, and he’s knocking strongly on the door of a Chelsea team that contains the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro who are ahead of him in his position.
Hudson-Odoi was recently given his first call-up to the England U21 squad, and before he knew it, the youngster who’s yet to feature for the U21s was then given a call-up by Gareth Southgate.
U21 boss Aidy Boothroyd revealed that Hudson-Odoi was just mingling and getting to know his team-mates before the senior team call-up came, and he was in disbelief.
“All the boys were meeting and mingling getting to know each other again and then comes a thunderbolt and he is off,” said Boothroyd.
“I told him ‘I’ve got some good news and bad news for you… The good news is that you have been called up by the senior team, the bad news is that you have to come back to me in the summer’.
“We will definitely have him in the summer, touch wood.
“He is buzzing, as you can imagine. A big smile came across his face [when I told him]. It is good.”
Boothroyd has been extremely impressed by Hudson-Odoi who has scored five times in 19 matches for the Blues this season, and the U21s boss admitted that he loves to watch the Chelsea youngster whether he plays as a starter or comes in as a sub.
“He’s a very confident young man. He is very talented, quick, direct and clever,” said Boothroyd.
“I have been very impressed with him whenever I have seen him, whether it be coming on as a sub or starting a game.
“Wherever he goes, he is good enough in my opinion from what I have seen potentially to be a regular at whatever team he plays at.”
