Jorginho has drawn the ire of Chelsea fans, and the summer signing has already been subjected to jeers from his own fans in just his first year in England.
The 27-year-old was booed by Chelsea fans when coming in as a substitute in the 3-0 win against Malmo in the Europa League clash.
Jorginho had struggled for form since the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham in November, but his recent performances have been impressive.
Jorginho has been subjected to criticisms from pundits and fans, but the Italian who’s seen as a key player by Maurizio Sarri has been working hard of late and trying to buy back the confidence of the Chelsea fans.
Before the game against Fulham, Jorginho vowed to win back the heart of the fans as he told ESPN Brazil when asked whether he had heard the jeers at the time: “Of course, in this day and age everything reaches you quickly. With technology everything is very fast.
“The important thing is to know how to deal with the situation. I remained calm because I know this is what fans are like, if you’re not winning they will complain and they have the right to do so.
“But I always stay focused and keep working. And I’m sure I’ll be able to show what I’m capable of and make them change their minds.”
Jorginho had impressed in the game against Manchester City and was in good form in the 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday. The Brazilian-born Italian scored the winner for Chelsea in the 2-1 away win against Fulham, and his performance was good as well.
Maurizio Sarri was full of praise for the midfielder at the end of the game and was delighted that he could find the net.
Sarri said: “I’m very happy for him. He scored, but my opinion of Jorginho is the same. He is a great player, one of the best in Europe in that position. For him it’s not easy the first season in a new team. Today he was very tired in the last part of the match. We were lucky Kovacic entered very well on the pitch.
“In that position we had some problems. We are trying during training with Kovacic and his answer was very good.”
