Chelsea are through to the quarter finals of the Europa League after an 8-0 aggregate win over Dynamo Kiev. Chelsea thrashed Dynamo Kiev 5-0 in Ukraine with Olivier Giroud getting a hat-trick.
The draw for the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Europa League is on Friday and Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri admits he is desperate to avoid his former side Napoli in the Europa League. Sarri would prefer to face Napoli in the finals of the competition.
Sarri joined Chelsea last summer from Napoli.
Napoli progressed into the quarter finals of the Europa League despite a 3-1 defeat to FC Red Bull Salzburg after winning the first leg 3-0 in Italy.
Asked if he would want to play Napoli in the quarter finals, Sarri said: I prefer to face them in the final.
“First of all, because it means we are in the final and I am happy with that. And second, it means that Naples are in the final, and I am happy.
“You know very well my relationship with the city, with the people. So, for me, it will be very difficult to play against them in Naples.”
Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013 and are one of the favourites to lift the trophy this season.
Meanwhile, Chelsea, Arsenal, Napoli, Benfica, Frankfurt, Slavia Praha, Valencia and Villarreal are all through to the quarter finals of the Europa League. The Europa League draw begins at 13:00CET on Friday 15 March, taking place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Teams won’t be seeded for the draw and clubs from the same national association can be drawn against each other which means Chelsea can be drawn to face Arsenal in the quarter finals.
Arsenal and Chelsea cannot play at home on the same night. Should Chelsea and Arsenal be drawn at home in the same week, Arsenal’s home fixture will be reversed to an away fixture.
Unlike previous seasons, the route to the final will be mapped out at this stage. After the quarter-final draw there is a semi-final draw too, followed by a draw to determine the ‘home’ team in the final for administrative reasons.
