Since the 6-0 thrashing to Manchester City at the Etihad last month, results have improved with Chelsea’s only loss in that time being the penalty shootout loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has revealed he changed Chelsea’s line of pressing after the humiliating loss to Manchester City.
Sarri typically wants his teams to press very high and win the ball high up the pitch but that can also leave the defence exposed. With Sarri relaxing a little on the high pressing, Chelsea’s defence have improved and we have conceded just once in our last four games.
Asked what he changed that improved Chelsea’s performances, Sarri replied: “Tactically we changed only the line of pressing sometimes.
“We are trying to play in the same way. Probably mentally. The final was really very important for us. We lost 6-0 in Manchester two weeks before and then, in the final, we were able to play at the same level as them.
“That was really very important for our minds, for our confidence.”
Chelsea struggled towards the end in our 2-1 win at Fulham over the weekend.
Asked the reason why Chelsea’s performance dropped towards the end against Fulham, Sarri replied: “We changed six players, I think. Between Spurs and Fulham, six players I think.
“We had very good rotation, I think. But probably we were tired. Some players physically and all the team mentally, I think.”
