The first international break is here, as club football will take a break for international duty to resume for about a week. So there’ll be no weekend action for Premier League lovers.
This weekend, the qualification for Euro 2020 starts in earnest and some Chelsea players have also been called up for this weekend qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations as it reaches its finale, and there are a also a huge number of friendlies.
Below is the full list of Chelsea players called up for international duty.
Eden Hazard and Michy Batshuayi have been called up by Belgium to feature in their Euro 2020 qualifiers at home to Russia on Thursday and away to Cyprus on Sunday. Hazard currently has 98 international caps, and if he plays in those games, it’ll take him to a century of football games for Belgium.
For England, Ross Barkley and Callum Hudson-Odoi were called up for their Euro 2020 qualifiers at home to Czech Republic on Friday and away to Montenegro on Monday. Ruben Loftus-Cheek was also called up but withdrew through injury. Hudson-Odoi was called up at first for the England U21 squad, but dramatically got a last minute call-up to represent the Three Lions.
N’Golo Kante and Olivier Giroud were also called up for France’s Euro 2020 qualifiers away to Moldova on Friday and at home to Iceland on Monday.
Chelsea midfielders Mateo Kovacic (on loan from Real Madrid) and Mario Pasalic (on loan to Atalanta) were called up by Croatia for their Euro 2020 qualifiers at home to Azerbaijan on Thursday and away to Hungary on Sunday.
Andreas Christensen made the Denmark squad for their friendly away to Kosovo on Thursday, and then a Euro 2020 qualifier away to Switzerland on Tuesday.
Chelsea playmaker Jorginho will be part of Italy’s squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers at home to Finland on Saturday and Liechtenstein on Tuesday.
German international Antonio Rudiger was called to represent Germany in their friendly at home to Serbia on Wednesday and then a Euro 2020 qualifier away to Holland on Sunday.
Summer signing and world’s most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was called up by Spain for their Euro 2020 qualifiers at home to Norway on Saturday and away to Malta on Tuesday.
On loan centre-back Kenneth Omeruo made the cut for Nigeria’s final African Cup of Nations qualifier at home to Seychelles on Friday, and then a friendly at home to Egypt on Tuesday, while Ola Aina who’s on loan to Torino pulled out through injury. Nigeria have already qualified for the tournament proper.
For the United States, latest Chelsea signing Christian Pulisic who’ll join at the end of the season and Matt Miazga on loan to Reading were called up for friendlies at home to Ecuador on Friday and Chile on Wednesday.
Unfortunately for Ethan Ampadu, he had to withdraw from the Welsh squad due to a back injury. He had been called up for a friendly at home to Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday, and a Euro 2020 qualifier at home to Slovakia on Sunday.
Victorien Angban was called up for Ivory Coast’s final African Cup of Nations qualifier at home to Rwanda on Saturday. Ivory Coast have already qualified for this summer’s tournament in Egypt.
