Chelsea looked to bolster creativity in the middle during the January transfer window by making a move for Sevilla midfielder Pablo Sarabia.
According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, 26-year-old Sarabia turned down the chance to join Chelsea in January.
Sarabia has impressed for Sevilla this season, scoring 12 goals and adding 10 assists. His ability to score and also create goals would have helped a Chelsea team that is too reliant on goals from the front three.
Sarabia is one of the most undervalued players in Europe with reports in Spain suggesting he has a release clause of just £15.4million with his contract due for expiry in 2020. Signing a player of his quality for £15.4million would definitely be a huge bargain in the current inflated transfer market.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has preferred a midfield three of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic/Ross Barkley and Jorginho. Goals from midfield is important if Chelsea want to challenge for titles and a player like Sarabia who can score lots of goals from midfield will definitely be needed.
It isn’t known if Chelsea would return with another bid for Sarabia in the summer.
Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is wanted for German club RB Leipzig this summer according to The Sun.
The 21-year-old striker is currently on loan at Championship club Aston Villa and has excelled on loan at Aston Villa. Wolves wanted Abraham during the January transfer window but he opted to remain with Aston Villa until the end of the season.
