Chelsea are currently placed sixth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with just eight games left to play.

The Blues could have been placed third if we had won games against Wolves and Everton but Chelsea could only manage a 1-1 draw against Wolves and lost 2-0 at Everton.

Stewart Robson has identified three problems Chelsea must solve if the Blues must finish in the top four this season.

According to Robson, Jorginho isn’t up to the task of being a defensive midfielder, especially in the Premier League and believes the Italian international’s position is one of the three problems Maurizio Sarri must solve if the Blues must finish in the top four.

Robson are insists there are also big question marks over left-back Marcos Alonso and centre-back David Luiz.

“There’s three major problems with Chelsea defensively,” Robson told ESPN FC.

“David Luiz can’t run when the ball’s played down the side.

“That space is left open because Alonso is playing higher up the field. He’s not good in one v one situations.

“And they’ve got a holding-midfield player that can’t get around the pitch, so that’s the biggest problem.”

Chelsea lost 2-0 at Everton on Sunday and Robson believes Chelsea struggle when pressed high by opposition teams.

“The thing that changed the game wasn’t Chelsea not playing, it was the fact that Everton started to play,” Robson continued.

“Everton did everything wrong in the first half by allowing Chelsea lots of time on the ball.

“Every team that seems to go and press Chelsea, make it difficult for them to play out from the back, have success.

“Everton didn’t do that in the first half, they did it a bit more in the second half and suddenly the game changed.

“Chelsea have got problems.”

Meanwhile, former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has revealed how Sarri can solve Chelsea’s midfield problems.

Burley told ESPN FC: “He has got the top four to do that too but their league form would not suggest that they are going to get in there.

“They do look to have a favourable draw in the Europa League although I do see Napoli personally as the favourites to win that.

“The dynamics of this team are all wrong.

“They have got to go for both but I go back to their team selection.

“There are lots of problems in this Chelsea side at the moment and it is not just in the midfield but the dynamics of the midfield gave been poor since the early parts of the season.

“I don’t understand why Ruben Loftus-Cheek is not a regular starter and I still don’t understand why Jorginho is in the team and Kante is not playing a deeper role and either Kovacic or Barkley further forward.

“I think Loftus-Cheek offers far more dynamism, guile and strength and power from the middle of the park than either Kovacic or Barkley.

“But he continues to be on the bench in big domestic games and I think that playing Jorginho in this league and in this team is just not working.”
