Gonzalo Higuain’s loan move to Chelsea in January hasn’t quite had the impact manager Maurizio Sarri would have been hoping for, with the Argentine striker scoring just three goals for the Blues.
All three goals have come against relegated teams Huddersfield and Fulham.
According to Italian media outlet, Gazzetta dello Sport, it is almost certain that Chelsea will cancel Higuain’s loan move at the end of the season.
Sarri brought Higuain to Stamford Bridge after the striker scored 38 goals in the 2015/16 under him at Napoli and was hoping the striker will have the same impact at Chelsea.
Higuain has expressed his desire to remain at Chelsea beyond this season but it currently looks as if he’s on the way out after just 3 goals in 13 appearances for the Blues.
“From a personal point of view I want to do as well as I can so I can be here for next season. That’s my intention,” Higuain said early this month.
“I came here and I wanted to stay. It’s a good city, you live well and you can be relaxed but also enjoy yourself. So my intention is to stay here.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle believes Higuain has lost of some his pace.
Hoddle told BT Sport: “Higuain looks as if he’s thinking about things before he’s even going to get a shot off. He’s a little bit slower than he was in yesteryear, he was a fantastic striker, don’t get me wrong.
“He looks like he should be in better shape than when he arrived, but for me he looks actually a little bit in less good shape, he looks as if he’s put a bit of weight on since he’s been here.
“Perhaps he’s been in the gym too much, I don’t know.”
