Chelsea were cruising in the first-half against Slavia Prague as the Blues had total control of the game.

Chelsea were 3-0 up inside the first 17 minutes of the second leg quarterfinal clash against Slavia Prague at Stamford Bridge. The first-half ended 4-1 in Chelsea’s favour but the game had a nervy ending after Petr Sevcik scored two quick-fire goals for Slavia Prague immediately after the restart.

Chelsea eventually won the game 5-3 on aggregate but the Blues were made to suffer in the second-half as Slavia took control of the game.

An event we’ve become too familiar with happened again against Slavia Prague as Chelsea lost momentum just immediately after the restart. Sevcik’s brace came in the 51st and 54th minute as Chelsea experienced yet another early second-half collapse.

In 2019 alone, Chelsea have now conceded 12 goals immediately after the restart, and this must be a worrying trend for Maurizio Sarri.

Beside tonight’s game, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah scored in the 51st and 53rd minute after the restart to give Liverpool a 2-0 win during the weekend. Against Cardiff, Camarasa scored a 46th minute goal but Chelsea were fortunate to win the game 2-1 following some controversial refereeing decision.

Against Everton, following a goalless first-half, Richarlison scored in the 49th minute as Everton eventually won the game 2-0. Against wolves, Raul Jimenez scored a 56th minute goal to hurt Chelsea before Hazard’s stoppage time equalising goal.

In the 2-1 semi-final League Cup win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, Fernando Llorente scored a 5oth minute goal, and Chelsea have also suffered similar feats against Manchester City and Bournemouth.

Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta admitted after the game that the team is conceding early goals in the first-half and believes that this mistake must be worked upon.

Cesar said after the game against Slavia Prague: “It’s a mistake that we make too often – we are conceding a lot of goals in the first minutes of the second half.

“We had to suffer until the end. We had a lot of confidence in the first half, when we were very good, and then we stopped playing. But we are in the semi-finals.”
