Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has revealed he wants Chelsea to sign either Robert Lewandowski or Mauro Icardi this summer.
The former Chelsea striker, who scored 88 goals during his time at the club, has been unimpressed with the club’s strike force this season, with Gonzalo Higuain struggling to make an impact since joining in January.
Chelsea have scored just 57 Premier League goals this season, the lowest among the top six teams.
“Chelsea are in desperate need of proven firepower so I would love to see them make a move for Lewandowski or Icardi this summer,” said Hasselbaink.
“Icardi would be my preference as I’m a little bit worried about Lewandowski’s age.
“I think Icardi is a more realistic target while also being more likely to adapt to the Premier League.
“Lewandowski is a superb striker but he is the wrong side of 30 and we have seen with Higuain that England is not an easy place to come at that stage of your career.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has slammed the Blues for playing with a small-club mentality at Anfield.
“Liverpool’s performance against Chelsea was as impressive as any they have given in the Premier League for a few months,” Cascarino told the Times.
“They had good intensity – particularly after half-time – and they controlled the game.
“Chelsea were disappointing, playing with a small-club mentality and, but for the odd flash of creativity involving Eden Hazard, they didn’t look like they could even take a point off Liverpool.”
