Olivier Giroud will be out of contract at the end of the season, though Chelsea hold an option to extend for a further year.
The France international has started just seven games in the Premier League this season despite being the highest goalscorer in the Europa League and he insists he won’t settle for a place on the bench next season.
Nice president Gauthier Ganaye has confirmed his club’s Interest in signing Giroud this summer but accepts any deal will prove expensive.
“(Giroud) is coming to the end of his contract, he is still performing well at his age. Why not, I will tell you that it is possible… (but) very expensive,” he told Telefoot.
“With Gilles Grimandi and (manager) Patrick Vieira, we have defined the technical profile for the different positions that we are looking to strengthen.
“So, today, we know the four or five players that interest us in that position. I am not going to give you names though.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea boss Glenn Hoddle believes every Chelsea fan except Maurizio Sarri knows the importance of Giroud to the team.
“Giroud is class, and he gives Chelsea a focal point and allows Hazard to play off a focal point, which is important,” Glenn Hoddle told BT Sport. “I think everyone in this stadium knows that bar Sarri.
“Higuain looks as if he’s thinking about things before he’s even going to get a shot off. He’s a little bit slower than he was in yesteryear, he was a fantastic striker, don’t get me wrong. He looks like he should be in better shape than when he arrived, but for me he looks actually a little bit in less good shape, he looks as if he’s put a bit of weight on since he’s been here.
“Perhaps he’s been in the gym too much, I don’t know.”
