Eden Hazard was in super form against West Ham on Monday night, and the Belgian once again proved how good he can be, as he made life difficult for the Hammers defence.
Hazard’s first goal was a sublime effort and it showed why he’s a world-class player as he picked up the ball midway in West Ham’s half, and superbly went past four players like they weren’t there before evading a last-ditch sliding challenge to fire low past Lukasz Fabianski. And it’s the kind of goal Barcelona star Lionel Messi is capable of producing.
Ahead of Barca’s Champions League tie with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that playing against Hazard is as similar to playing against Messi.
“You know, I can’t relate to having the skills he has,” Solskjaer said, when asked by MUTV how, as a forward, he evaluated Messi. “He is so far away from what I was as a player because he just comes alive when he is in and around the box and has got the ball.
“He’s got a low sense of gravity and balance, which is unique, but, then again, we’ve played against Mbappe and Ronaldo in the Champions League.
“They are different types of players but we’ve played against Hazard and he is a similar type. He’s coming from the right and Messi will be from the left, but we’ve had some practice and we know what we are doing. But I can’t say there are many better players than him in the world at the moment.”
Hazard has now been directly involved in more Premier League goals than any player this season with 16 goals and 12 assists in 32 league games for the Blues.
At the end of the game, Hazard told reporters: “I think we played well. The game was not so easy because West Ham is a great team.
“They created problems but in the end we did everything. We scored two great goals.
“The first goal? It is something special. I take the ball and when I can go forward I try to go forward. When I am in the box it is hard for a defender to challenge me because if they touch me it might be a penalty.
“I think I am a bit lucky when I shot, but it is a good goal. When I saw the ball in the net I was happy. I am small, so for me it is good. When I play against big guys it is very hard for them to change direction.”
