Premier League rivals Liverpool are reportedly interested in a move for Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne but according to Metro UK, the Italian prefers a reunion with Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea rather than a switch to Anfield.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old according to various reports and wants the Italian at Anfield next season.
According to Italian media outlet Corriere dello Sport, Napoli value Insigne at around £60million.
Insigne wants a reunion with Sarri at Stamford Bridge because he believes the Italian tactician helped him unlock his potential at Napoli.
Insigne produced the best form of his career under Sarri, scoring 20 goals in the 2016/17 season.
Insigne’s dream of joining Sarri at Stamford Bridge can only materialise if Chelsea’s transfer ban is overturned by FIFA.
Playing regularly as a second striker this season, Insigne has scored 13 goals and provided seven assists in 38 appearances.
Meanwhile, Klopp ruled out a move for Insigne on Thursday.
“We will not sign Lorenzo Insigne,” Klopp told reporters.
“He is a very good player but he has a long-term contract at Napoli. We will not even try it.”
Insigne is tied to terms with Napoli through to 2022.
