Chelsea showed strength, character, resilience and a strong fighting spirit to beat West Ham 2-0 in a tightly contested London derby at Stamford Bridge.

The brilliance of Eden Hazard made the difference in the game as Chelsea spurned lots of opportunities to kill the game especially in the first-half. The second-half was a very different game with both sides going against each other in an end to end encounter.

See the ratings of the Chelsea players below:

Kepa: Had nothing to do in the first-half. Did very well in goal and made some very good saves as West Ham looked a different side in the second-half. 8/10

Azpilicueta: One of his best games this season. The Spaniard was a beast at right-back, bursting up and down the right flank and put in so many important tackles. It was indeed a captain’s performance from Cesar. 8/10

Luiz: Comfortable evening for the Brazilian. Solid performance. 7/10

Rudiger: Was roaring at the back as he put his body on the line in the second-half as West Ham pressed on. Ensured Arnautovic didn’t hurt his side as West Ham got better in the second-half. 7.5/10

Emerson: Did well in the left-back spot. Combined well with Hazard and covered the position really well when Hazard was upfront. 7/10

Jorginho: Had a good game especially in the first-half. Controlled the game really well deep in midfield, but struggled a bit with West Ham’s intensity in the second half. 7/10

Kante: Worked hard in midfield and made some good forward runs that could have ended in a goal. 7/10

Loftus-Cheek: Powerful and explosive performance from the Englishman as he had another good game. Made some good runs and could have scored a goal. 8/10

Hudson-Odoi: Started the first-half with a bang as he made life difficult for the fullback. Stretched Fabianski with one good shot in the first-half. Got quiet in the second-half as West Ham upped their tempo. 7/10

Hazard: Was at his very best tonight. Scored a brilliant goal to open the lead that should be a contender for the goal of the season. Was the game’s best player and made things happen every time he touched the ball. Scored the crucial second goal to seal the win for Chelsea. 10/10

Higuain: Got some good opportunities in the first but couldn’t find the goal. Hit the woodwork and combined well with the forward players. 6/10

Barkley: Came on for Loftus-Cheek with 20 minutes left of the game and had a huge impact. Worked very hard in midfield and his assist for Hazard’s second goal was sublime. 7/10

Giroud: Replaced Higuain with 15 minutes left and tested Fabianski. Had a sniff at goal a couple of times. 6/10

Pedro: Had a good cameo appearance after replacing Hudson-Odoi late in the game. 6/10

Manager: Maurizio Sarri will get a good rating for his match line-up, and his substitutions were also correct and timely. 8/10

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
