Chelsea couldn’t get anything from the game at Anfield as the Blues lost 2-0 to Liverpool, with second-half goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
See how the players fared in this game:
Kepa: Made some good saves but couldn’t do anything about the goals scored by Mane and Salah. 6/10
Azpilicueta: Had a good battle against Mane especially as he lacked support from Hudson-Odoi and he had a good game. Did well going forward as well. 6/10
Luiz: Did well in the first-half but his second-half performance wasn’t too good. Was easily beaten for the first goal. 5/10
Rudiger: Did okay until his 40th minute injury took him out of the game. 5/10
Emerson: Had it very difficult against Salah as the Egyptian kept threatening him down Chelsea’s left. 4/10
Jorginho: Struggled against Liverpool’s midfield and lost the ball too often. Made too many mistakes under pressure. 3/10
Kante: Was like a box to box midfielder as he went up and down the field. Energetic in the middle and helped the team’s attack with his runs. 6/10
Loftus-Cheek: Good when with the ball, but his defensive game was missing as Liverpool’s midfield ran riot.
Hudson-Odoi: Was nowhere to be found until his substitution in the 56th minute. Didn’t track back to help Azpilicueta and looked overwhelmed by the occasion. 3/10
Willian: Worked hard on the right flank and caused Liverpool some troubles whenever he ran direct at them. 6/10
Hazard: Was Chelsea’s best player this evening. Saw little action in the first-half as he was isolated in the false nine role, but troubled Liverpool whenever he got the ball. Switched to the left flank for the second-half and was excellent. Was unfortunate not to score a brace today. 7/10
Christensen: Did okay after replacing the injured Rudiger. 6/10
Higuain: Came on for Hudson-Odoi and his introduction helped Hazard, but he didn’t really offer the team much. 4/10
Barkley: Added a bit of energy to the midfield after replacing Loftus-Cheek with 15 minutes left.
Sarri: Made the game easy for Liverpool by playing Hazard out of his natural position again. It surely didn’t work for the Belgian. This simple decision cost Chelsea the game. Chelsea weren’t set out to win the game from the onset, and I believe we should have pushed for a win and not a point from the start of the game. 3/10
