Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has hailed Ruben Loftus-Cheek for being a complete midfielder.
Loftus-Cheek’s impressive showing in the 3-0 victory over Brighton came just days after he scored the winner in a comeback win away to Cardiff.
“Yes, [he has improved] a lot. Especially tactically. Now he is tactically a very good midfielder,” Sarri said.
“At the beginning of the season, he was a very offensive midfielder. Now he is complete, I think.”
Loftus-Cheek scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday night before he was forced off due to a minor injury.
When asked about his chances of starting against West Ham on Monday night after an impressive performance against Brighton, Sarri said: “Maybe (he will start on Monday), but we need to check every day the condition of his back.
“This morning, he had only a recovery session because he needs time to recover after a match. The problem in this moment is only that, probably, he’s not able to play for 90 minutes.
“No. I don’t think [the back issue is a big concern]. It’s a problem, of course, but I think our doctor is able to take under control the situation.”
Sarri added: “I have to consider that, in this moment of the season, we need to change. We played 51 matches and then because, in the last part of the season, I want 20 players completely involved in our targets.”
Meanwhile, Sarri revealed after Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday night why he took off Loftus-Cheek.
“Loftus-Cheek for the first time he doesn’t have a problem with his back so in the last 20 days was able to train every day,” Sarri said.
“He played well, scored a wonderful goal but, after 75 minutes, he had a problem with his hamstring – only cramp I think.”
