Chelsea have advanced to the semi-final of the Europa League after beating Slavia Prague 5-3 on aggregate in the quarterfinal of the competition.
Chelsea play Eintracht Frankfurt after the Germans produced a stunning comeback victory against Benfica having lost the first leg 4-2. In the other semi-final clash, Arsenal booked a place after cruising past Napoli on Thursday night 3-0 on aggregate to book a spot against Valencia.
Many expect Chelsea and Arsenal to go through to the final, and Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal star Paul Merson is predicting an all English final.
“I think Arsenal probably play Chelsea in the final. I think we could have two all-English finals,” he said on Sky Sports.
“All about injuries, fitness and confidence [in the final]. It all depends on that day. It’s only confidence, not the ability of the players.”
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri expressed his disappointment at Napoli’s loss to Arsenal, as it means there is no longer a chance he will come up against his old side this season.
Speaking to the Metro, Sarri said: “I’m not happy that Napoli are out because, if the final is Chelsea v Napoli, I’m sure at the end of the match I’d be really happy.”
Sarri who is yet to win a title in his career is keen on lifting the Europa League. After losing the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City, Sarri insists he wants to win the Europa League.
The Chelsea boss said: “This time I don’t want to play the final; I want to win the final.
“To win the competition it’ll be very difficult. Eintracht are a great team with a wonderful striker in Luka Jovic.”
