Two of Chelsea’s best players this season have been Antonio Rudiger and Eden Hazard, and the duo have made Garth Crooks team of the season.
BBC football pundit Garth Crooks has named Antonio Rudiger and Eden Hazard in his team of the season after the pair played a big role in Chelsea’s third-place finish in this season’s Premier League.
Crooks’ selection for his team of the season, features players only from the league’s top three clubs this season – Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger joined Liverpool trio of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson in a four-man defence, while Eden Hazard was included in a three-man midfield which also features Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho.
Crooks said of Rudiger’s inclusion: “It’s very unfortunate that an injury to Antonio Rudiger will rob him of an appearance in this season’s Europa League final.
“His absence is a big deal for Chelsea and might be the difference between them winning and losing against Arsenal.
“His performances have been outstanding during a difficult period for the Blues. Every time I watch this lad play I am bowled over by his enthusiasm and competitive nature. A man for a crisis.”
And of Hazard, he said: “With the Belgium wizard in their side, [Chelsea] not only remained relevant in the Premier League title race but in contention for a European trophy.
“His conduct amid some challenging moments at the club has been exemplary.”
Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchison, believes Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been ‘brilliant’ this season, and is the Blues second best player of the campaign.
“You could be optimistic if you’re a Chelsea fan and you look at the bigger picture and try and imagine what your team’s gonna be next season,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast.
“It might be N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek. Very good. You might have [Callum] Hudson-Odoi one side, Christian Pulisic the other. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen with [Gonzalo] Higuain, if they can actually bring him in or not, or [Olivier] Giroud leading the line.
“It’s still a very, very good team and a very, very good squad.”
