Alvaro Morata could be back at Stamford Bridge this summer according to reports.
A report on Spanish newspaper AS via The Sun claims the striker’s loan deal at Atletico Madrid is in danger of being terminated just six months into an 18-month agreement.
Morata left Chelsea for Atletico Madrid on loan in January after struggling under Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.
After joining Chelsea in the summer of 2017, Morata scored 24 times in 72 appearances but received a considerable amount of criticism from some supporters.
The striker hoped to return to his best form at Atletico Madrid but the 26-year-old has scored just six goals in 16 appearances.
Atletico Madrid will have to pay Chelsea £15million to keep Morata until 2020 but following Morata’s performance at Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone is reportedly assessing his options and weighing up a move for a more prolific striker.
Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering sending Morata back to Chelsea instead of paying the fee needed to keep him for another season.
It isn’t yet known if Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri will want Morata back at Stamford Bridge due to Chelsea’s inability to make signings this summer due to FIFA’s transfer ban.
With Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham returning to the club this summer from their loan deals, Sarri will have to make tough choices this summer as he can’t keep all strikers at the club next season.
