Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has urged Roman Abramovich to give Maurizio Sarri another season at the club if Chelsea finish in the top four and win the Europa League.
It’s been a roller-coaster first year for Sarri at Stamford Bridge. The Italian started well as the Blues won 8 games and drew four games in his first 12 games of the Premier League.
Sarri suffered his first defeat as Chelsea manager in November against Tottenham and performances have been inconsistent ever since.
From fighting for the title in his first three months as Chelsea boss, the Blues slipped out of the top four before finally securing a top four finish following the 3-0 win over Watford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Many didn’t expect Sarri to finish the season as Chelsea boss especially after fans called for the club to sack the Italian early this year.
Leboeuf wants the Italian to be given a second chance.
Leboeuf, who spent five years in Chelsea, said, according to Daily Mirror: “I am always the kind of guy who likes to give a second chance, because it was the case everywhere in England with all clubs that I saw.
“Even if they had a bad season they kept their coach because they tried to work on their abilities.
“Now it seems that after a year, if it is not good it’s, ‘Goodbye’.
“But at the end of the day, if Chelsea win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League then he deserves another chance.
“I didn’t agree with everything he decided, like changing N’Golo Kante for example from a holding midfield player to a midfielder on the side.
“But if you decide to get a guy because you believe he can bring something to your club, he should have more than a year to get the results.
“If he finishes well he should have another chance.”
