Mateo Kovacic joined Chelsea from Real Madrid last summer on a season-long loan deal.
The 24-year-old has spent the 2018-19 season at Stamford Bridge, earning mixed reviews, as there has been some dissatisfaction with his play for Chelsea this season.
Kovacic started the season well for the Blues, but his performance tailed off midway through the season and he even dropped form by the end of the campaign as he was unable to find a goal or assist.
There are uncertainties whether Chelsea will keep Kovacic for next season, and now according to Corriere dello Sport (via Inside Futbol), Inter Milan are “plotting” a move for their former player as they seek to sign the Real Madrid midfielder on loan.
Kovacic seems to have enjoyed his time in London so far and has spoken highly of the Premier League, and wants to remain.
Sarri had revealed last month that he wants to keep Kovacic for next season.
He said: “He is only on loan, of course, but I’d like very much that Kovacic will stay with us. You know very well that, in that position, we have some problems because we have only Jorginho.
“In my opinion, Kovacic could become a very good central midfielder. Of course, he is not a defensive midfielder (at the moment) but, as you know, in that position I prefer a very technical player.”
