Ruben Loftus-Cheek is having his best ever season at Chelsea, having graduated from the Chelsea academy, but had struggled to get chances in the first team.
Loftus-Cheek has fought his way into the Chelsea first team this season having started the season behind Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley, and only Eden Hazard (16) and Pedro (eight) have scored more Premier League goals than the 23-year-old who has netted 6 goals in the league this season.
Loftus-Cheek has been a goal threat for Chelsea this season and has scored some important goals. The 23-year-old has now revealed that he has been studying the clips of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard over the years and wants to emulate the Blues all time goalscorer.
Loftus-Cheek said: “He was obviously the best at that. I studied him a lot in the Academy with my coaches, how he arrived in the box and his timing to get in the box and score goals. It was something I aspire to be like that as a midfielder who has the ability to score goals.
“I would like to be a player who can score a lot in a Premier League season. That’s something I will look to improve on.”
Loftus-Cheek has been one of Chelsea’s best players in the Europa League this season as he has featured 10 times in the competition so far, scoring a hat-trick against BATE Borisov back in October. Loftus-Cheek is now looking forward to the final and has urged his Chelsea teammates to take the competition seriously despite having made top four.
Loftus-Cheek said ahead of the Europa League semifinal clash against Eintracht Frankfurt: “We’ve achieved Champions League football, but this is the chance to get into the final of the Europa League. As Chelsea we want to win trophies. This is a massive opportunity for us to win a trophy.
“It would be stupid to go into the game relaxed because they are a top team. We saw that in the last leg. It will definitely be a tough game but we want to win it.”
