Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored his 10th goal of the season in Chelsea’s Europa League semifinal triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night.
The Blues drew 2-2 on aggregate with Eintracht Frankfurt at Stamford Bridge and had to rely on penalties to progress to the Europa League final.
Loftus-Cheek’s goal against Eintracht Frankfurt means the 23 year old is the first Chelsea academy player to reach double figure goals in a season since Graham Stuart in the 1992/93 campaign.
Stuart scored 10 times as Chelsea finished 11th in the league in the 1992/93 season.
Since Stuart in the 92/93 season, no Chelsea academy graduate has scored that much in a season for the Blues until Loftus-Cheek.
Chelsea have had a number of players come through their academy since Stuart scored 10 goals in a season but many of them have been defenders, the most notable being John Terry.
Chelsea academy graduate striker Carlton Cole managed just six goals in his best season for Chelsea in 2002/03.
Loftus-Cheek has made 39 appearances for the Blues this season, with 16 as starts. He has scored six times in the Premier League and four times in the Europa League while also providing six assists.
Chelsea fans have been impressed with his performances for the club this season and there have been calls for him to be a regular in the team.
