Chelsea’s players trained at Baku’s Olympic Stadium on Tuesday evening as the team prepared for Wednesday’s Europa League final against Arsenal.
There was a clash between Gonzalo Higuain and David Luiz during the training session and Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri appeared to be angered by the incident as he stormed off the training session, throwing off his hat before kicking it away in disgust.
A Chelsea spokesperson insisted afterwards that the incident between Luiz and Higuain wasn’t the reason for Sarri’s action.
A Chelsea spokesman said: “Maurizio’s frustration displayed at the end of training was not related to any of his players, but was due to not being able to practise set-plays in the final 15 minutes of the hour-long training session as it remained open to media.”
A video has now emerged of Luiz appearing to elbow Higuain during the training session before Sarri stormed off the pitch.
Higuain wasn’t pleased Luiz threw an elbow at him and confronted Luiz.
Sarri then had a conversation with Luiz before walking off training, and throwing away his cap.
Luiz is expected to start against Arsenal in the final, with Sarri set to choose between Higuain and Olivier Giroud up front.
