Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is on the brink of returning to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea’s new manager and with the Blues unable to sign players this summer, Lampard will be expected to give some loan players a chance in the first team next season.
Out of the 40 players out on loan last season, these six Chelsea players could force their way into the starting XI next season:
1 Fikayo Tomori
The 21 year old centre-back impressed on loan at Derby County last season under the tutelage of Frank Lampard. He was terrific for Derby County all the way to the play-off final, making 55 appearances and scoring two goals. Tomori was named Derby’s Player of the Year last season.
2. Kurt Zouma
The 24 year old centre-back hasn’t played much for Chelsea since he picked up an injury that kept him out for months in 2016. Zouma has spent the last two seasons on loan, first at Stoke and then at Everton last season. Zouma impressed at Everton and they are keen on signing the centre-back on a permanent deal. It would be surprising to see Zouma leave Chelsea on loan again this summer.
3. Tiemoue Bakayoko
Fans were happy to see Tiemoue Bakayoko leave Stamford Bridge for AC Milan last summer after a disappointing first season at Chelsea following his move from Monaco in 2017. Bakayoko failed to replicate his Monaco form at Stamford Bridge and the £40million spent on him looked like a huge waste. Bakayoko spent last season on loan at AC Milan and the midfielder impressed in Italy after a rocky start. If he can replicate his Monaco form in a Chelsea shirt next season, the midfielder could force his way into the starting XI.
