Ethan Ampadu made three appearances in the Europa League for Chelsea last season. Prior to last season, Ampadu was yet to feature in an European club competition.
Describing his Europa League experience, Ampadu told Chelsea’s official website: “European games have definitely got a little bit of a different atmosphere about them.
“For me it was a good experience and I enjoyed it. They can be hostile. When I played away against Vidi it was quite hostile, and the fans abroad make a whistling noise which can make it hard to hear your team-mates.”
Callum Hudson-Odoi scored his first Chelsea goal in the Europa League, the 4-0 victory over PAOK and Ampadu, who also featured in the game, described it as a big moment for Hudson-Odoi.
Ampadu added: “It was a big moment for [Callum Hudson-Odoi]. I always knew he was a good player and it’s been good to see a young team-mate and a friend do well. I was happy to be on the pitch with him when he scored.”
