Bundesliga expert Raphael Honigstein has revealed Bayern Munich are still interested in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The German champions made several attempts to sign the 18 year old winger in January, submitting bids of up to £35 million but Chelsea rejected all offers for the youngster.
Hudson-Odoi also submitted a transfer request in January to try to force a move to Germany but was told by the club he won’t be sold to Bayern Munich.
Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was initially reluctant to play the 18-year-old, a reason why Hudson-Odoi wanted to leave in January but the Italian coach eventually gave Hudson-Odoi some first-team minutes.
Despite Bayern Munich’s interest in Hudson-Odoi, Honigstein believes Hudson-Odoi is more likely to sign a new deal with Chelsea FC rather than move to Bayern Munich this summer.
Asked about Bayern’s interest, Honigstein told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast: “They [Bayern] never stopped revisiting the situation. The interest has been constant.
“It has worked out well for Hudson-Odoi. There was pressure on Sarri and perhaps Southgate to play him. Suddenly he’s a Chelsea and England player.
“Chelsea have worked really hard to get him to extend his contract. The temptation must be that he’s English and Chelsea want him here.
“Chelsea could be his team. Lampard could really help his development so he’ll stay.”
Hudson-Odoi impressed with four goals and two assists in nine games in the Europa League and scored one goal and made one assist in 13 appearances in the Premier League, FA Cup and the League Cup.
Meanwhile, Hudson-Odoi has revealed he is a big fan of Argentina legend Diego Maradona.
Hudson-Odoi said: “The way that he always loved to create as many goals as possible. Also, the confidence that he showed in every game – he didn’t care [about others] when he tried to do something – if he made a mistake, he kept on going.
“I think I can get that same [level of] confidence and keep doing my stuff and keep being myself. I’m a big fan of Maradona.
“I’ve been watching him since I was very young. He was a great player, left-footed. He liked to dribble with the ball and score goals. I’m a big fan.”
