Bristol City have beaten Celtic to the signing of Tomas Kalas, with the transfer expected to be confirmed within the next 24 hours, according to Bristol Live.
The 26 year old Czech international spent last season on loan at Bristol City and the Robins have now secured the permanent signing of the defender.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon was also interested in signing the 26 year old defender but Kalas opted to join Bristol City. It is believed Bristol City boss Lee Johnson’s powers of persuasion and the familiarity of Bristol won him over.
Kalas made 38 Championship appearances for City last season during his loan spell at the club and struck up a fine partnership with Adam Webster forming one of the best centre-back duos in the division.
Kalas was keen to leave Chelsea permanently this summer, having gone on six different loan spells since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2010.
Kalas is the second Chelsea player to leave the club permanently this summer after Bristol City turned another loan from Chelsea into a permanent deal, with Jay Dasilva signing a four-year contract.
Bristol City boss Lee Johnson will be excited to complete the deal for Kalas after revealing at the end of last season that he enjoyed working with the defender.
Johnson said: “I think Tomas Kalas has been fantastic and I’ve enjoyed working with him and he has taken us to another level in terms of his quality.”
