Young Chelsea goalkeeper Brad Collins has finally departed from the club on a permanent deal. Barnsley have signed the former Chelsea goalkeeper on a four-year deal after he was released by the club.

Brad Collins spent last season on loan to Burton Albion as he couldn’t find a way in the Chelsea team with three established goalkeepers – Kepa Arrizabalaga, Willy Caballero and veteran Robert Green.

Collins was a valued member of Burton’s League One squad last term, but this coming season, the 22-year-old will be playing his football elsewhere, having signed up for Championship side Barnsley.

Collins was between the posts when the youth side won the UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup in 2014/2015, but never got the opportunity to feature for the senior team.

“You just want to keep progressing as a footballer and if you look at my stats, it shows I have,” Collins said as he confirms his departure from Chelsea.

He told the official Barnsley website: “The vision here is good, there’s a good group of lads here who are hungry and play the right way.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
