Chelsea midfielder Tariq Uwakwe has extended his stay at the club by signing a new Chelsea contract.
The 19-year-old would have been a free agent on July 1 but has decided to extend his stay with the Blues, ending all speculations surrounding his future at the club.
Uwakwe penned a three-year deal with the Blues having the option to extend for a further 12 months.
According to The Sun, Uwakwe is hoping the imminent arrival of Frank Lampard with Jody Morris could mean a chance to stake a claim for a spot in the first-team squad this season.
Morris is reportedly a big fan of the youngster who played a significant role in winning the FA Youth Cup twice before he joined Lampard at Derby County last year.
The Blues reportedly rejected an approach from West Brom in January for Uwakwe as the Baggies wanted a temporary move with a view to a permanent switch.
Last season he made 15 appearances for the U23s in the Premier League 2, scoring 1 goal and registering 2 assists.
Uwakwe joined Chelsea Academy at U9 level and rose through the ranks before becoming an important member of the U23 team.
Frank Lampard’s imminent arrival as Chelsea boss is having a positive impact on our youngsters.
